Virgo New Moon
Virgo New Moon
* Please remember: This isn’t a description of someone with a Virgo Sun but a nudge to think about the Virgo energy playing itself out in our lives universally, asking that we use this NEW moon energy to seek a more spacious understanding of Virgo’s strengths and disentangle ourselves a bit more from its shadows.
Let me say right up front that I love Virgo. It floods our minds with humility and a deeply felt desire to somehow contribute to the healing of the world. Anyone with a lot of Virgo in their chart is going to drop the shoulder to the wheel of Time and stay the course without needing a parade to honor them.
Virgo, loving lists as it does, sends these notes from the moon this morning:
1. Though I have carefully analyzed your situation—both personally and globally—and I understand that things are exceedingly out-of-control, the complaining has got to stop.
2. More than anything, I want both to nourish your health and to help you feel as if you are making a difference in our world. But, first, the complaining has got to stop.
3. And the worrying, please, says our moon, stop that, too, if you can. All this is a high high bar given the state of things. A bar so high, in fact, that you may only be able to manage to stop the mind-flailing for minutes in a day. But the thing is: No amount of worrying or grousing about will change anything.
4. Your mind is fully equipped to send you over the cliff of anxiety OR to help you activate shifts in your thinking patterns that will allow you to move forward. Please be careful that your lovely mind doesn’t get drawn down into the quicksand of “it’s all just become too impossible.”
5. Some of the pieces of this consciousness-puzzle are still realizing themselves. Use the patience and tenacity in Virgo to allow for the time it takes to move into the next challenge.
6. Nothing remains the same, though Virgo would sometimes wish otherwise. All the earth signs crave certainty and Virgo, especially, is most comfortable when it thinks it has all its ducks in a row, so to speak. But our world is offering us ducks that look like dragons and we can’t round them up and corral them any more than we can avoid the chaos they are creating with every fiery breath.
7. And, you know, Virgo doesn’t like all this messiness. But we live in a messy world. Virgo craves a way to help heal all that is broken and battered. But when it comes from its highest note, it remembers what is necessary is, very simply, the next care-full step.
The thing that can hang us up (when we find ourselves examining our lives and questioning whether we’re engaged enough in service to whatever cause is calling out our name) is Virgo’s aversion to chaos. It likes to feel all the mind’s puzzle pieces in place, exactly where they belong. The great strength of this energy is its point-on ability to analyze anything well, to see the holes in the fabric of ideas or to find the wrench that’s missing from its perfectly outlined place on the garage wall.
This quality of careful mind-tending is a strength—it enables us to get home from the grocery store with everything we need for dinner—but when Virgo’s careful tending gets carried away, it can become obsessive and then it’s just annoying and, at its extreme, self-destructive. Virgo can get so swept up in its desire for a perfect and flawless way into everything, that before you know it, you’re beating yourself up for not being ‘enough.' Anyone reading this column familiar with that voice?
Friday’s new moon asks that we notice where we’ve taken such care with our precise thinking that we’ve driven ourselves crazy, lost in the details as we are.
If you’d like some perspective about your own energetic dance through all this cosmic weather, please drop a note and schedule a reading. It may be time for you to check back with a transit reading or seek more understanding of a relationship. I offer readings of the goddess archetypes as well as readings of the cartography maps which help you feel your way around the world by following your energy ley lines. And always, I welcome new clients.
Today’s new moon would like us to consider the possibility that a little messiness in the mind’s eye could dislodge the certainty that stalls the rise of consciousness.
Please give yourself a break from the voices that would tear you apart with their rough-edged criticism. And, please, nourish your body along the way. Sleep. Green things. Apples and deep breaths.
Wishing you a few days of relaxed mind and body and a renewed sense of your worthiness.

Nature does not hurry
yet everything is accomplished.
~ Lao Zu
Do the best you can until you know better.
Then when you know better, do better.
~ Maya Angelou
Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit
to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
